He is also affiliated with the International Police Association, the Suffolk County Detectives Association (SDA), the International Association of Marine Investigators, and the Association of Licensed Detectives NY.

As a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), Investigator Varley has participated in the investigation of several high-profile cases including the crash of TWA Flight 800; acts of eco-terrorist arsons, white supremacist groups, and militia groups; and the World Trade Center attack of 9/11.
